Samsung and HTC will update to Android 5.0 Lollipop in 2015

Samsung and HTC have announced when their customers can expect to receive the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Sources contacted the SamMobile website to report that Samsung has confirmed that it will be updating its Samsung Galaxy S4 to the latest version.

This will be the third major Android update that the Galaxy S4 has seen, with Samsung previously updating it to Android 4.3 and then 4.4.

The Exynos variant (GT-I9500), which runs Samsung's own Exynos 5 Octa SoC, is apparently getting the update first sometime early next year. Once that has been updated Android 5.0 should roll out to other versions of the Galaxy S4, as well as Samsung's other flagship smartphones.

HTC's getting it too

HTC has also announced via Twitter that it has got the Android Lollipop code. It has promised that it will be updating the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 within 90 days from today.

This means if you have one of those handsets you should receive the update before February next year.

Further information about when we can expect an upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop on other HTC devices hasn't been revealed, but we should hopefully find out soon.
